This map shows the lay of the land before a fire destroys the Village of Auld.

In the north, sunflowers bloom on a faraway hillside, while to the south—a vineyard borders lavender fields and the home of Lucy—the Village of Auld. In the east, beyond a high wall of poplar trees, the Queen’s humble abode—Cracklewood Cottage looks over roses, and a stream (reservoir), to whom all lay claim, but none should own. To the west, the Stoneboy lies in the cool of the Shady Glade, while further west again, the Arum King lurks in the wasteland habitat below.

This map shows the lay of the land after the fire has destroyed the Village of Auld, and the village rebuilt as the Topiary City.

Lucy Lavender and the Topiary City is high fantasy for ages five to 15 and beyond. Its main character, Lucy Lavender, is a great role model for girls — brave, kind, and adventurous.

The story is set in the Planted World, a place where people have plant personas and plants have people personas, where the plants are real but the people are not. Everyone — plants and people alike — relies on water for survival.
